A professional team was assembled and planning consent was granted for demolition of Market Towers and the erection of the tallest residential tower in Western Europe at the time at over 200m high in 2012.

The scheme comprises  436 private apartments, 51 shared ownership apartments, 209 bedroom 4* hotel and 120,000 sq.ft. offices.

The overall project size equates to 26 acres of development on 2 acres of land.

Only tall building of recent times not to be called in by Secretary of State for a planning enquiry. The site was sold to Dalian Wanda in 2013.
